We didn’t derive the earlier VHS editions, so all the stories are recent to my four year old-fashioned, who thoroughly enjoys them. As a matter of fact, my two year mature nephew is now a convert.

The beauty of the DVD edition is the feature which allows you to settle an episode, or play them all, or play them all continuously, the last being the well-liked bewitch at our house.

In “The Visitor”, Kipper looks after a microscopic lost gosling. This is a top-notch anecdote if your kids are really messy, as Kipper is continuously cleaning up after his runt charge.

“Pig’s Explain” tells of Pig’s birthday and all the pets he receives as gifts. The portion with the hamster going through Kipper’s “obstacle course” is mountainous fun.

“The Butterfly” teaches that the best things in life should be free.

“The Bleepers” will have your kids speaking strangely, and eating lollipops.

Arnold is formally introduced in “Pig’s Cousin” – I had previously plan they were brothers.

“The Runt Ghost” is the most attractive sage of the lot, with the most “special effects” of any Kipper episode.

If you haven’t already seen the early episodes, I strongly recommend this one. If not, borrow it honest for “The Shrimp Ghost”

I always appreciate Kipper, probably even more than my 2 1/2 year former, and there are years to near for her to relish them. I like the British humor and the simplicity compared to the chaotic cartoons around. And I like how kind the characters are to one another.

Another reviewer complained that all but one of these stories are repeats, but I have every DVD or video Amazon offers in the Kipper series, and there are no repeats on here or on the ‘Kipper Waterplay’ DVD. But here is a list of the stories on the ‘Kipper Helps Out’ DVD:

I saw this movie shortly after it came to video and idea it was a beautiful noble movie. Then a couple years later, I saw it again. And it fair kind of stuck in my brain. I’ll be reading or listening to something, and it will remind me of the movie. In conversations I bring up this film all the time because it is so relevant to considerable issues of our time. Racism, vigilante action, honest issues, etc. The more you recognize this movie, the more it makes you mediate.

And if you’re not enthusiastic in thinking about some of the larger philosophical issues at hand, there’s calm plenty of stuff for you. You’ve got Matthew McConaughey who does a phenomenal job, and looks spacious while at it. Oliver Platt imbues his character with objective the honest amount of sleaze and charm that you can’t aid but treasure him. Donald Sutherland is absolutely lovable as the old-school gentleman (and you and your friends can argue over whether he’s a lush or or a drunk/alcoholic) . Sandra Bullock does a believable job, and the men tend to bag Ashley Judd rather aesthetic in this role. And let’s not forget Samuel L. Jackson, who makes his character so dependable that you understand the spot he’s in and why he does what he does.

So basically, there’s something for everyone here. Thinking stuff with gracious looking people (male and female) who act well. Can’t go inferior with this one.

John Grisham novels are difficult to rate as movies. On one hand Grisham’s work translates to well to pop culture that his books are almost cinematic. On the other, the “book-is-never-as-good-as-the-movie”-ism applies. Some of Grisham’s books have been quite good- “The Firm” was a terrifically provocative movie (Tom Hover was letter-perfect for the role of Mitch McDeere), and “The Rainmaker” (which gave Matt Damon his commence) certainly surprised me with a touching memoir of an underdog who upsets the system. Some have been mediocre to bad- “The Pelican Brief” and “The Chamber” fit the latter category, “The Client” the stale. “A Time to Ruin”, in my conception, is the best of them all because the author gives his audience a tough choice to form about what justice is. Pack in some excellent acting performances and this is one glowing darn agreeable movie.

The location? After his young daughter is viciously raped and assaulted by rednecks (no, John Rocker doesn’t have a cameo), Samuel L. Jackson guns down the two assailents on their method to court. He is subsequently set on trial by the local DA, and defended by an idealistic white attorney. Jackson’s trial becomes a swirling tempest for local hatreds to be aired.

Director Joel Schumacher certainly surprised me with superb work, despite being the man who made “Batman & Robin”. It helps to assemble some serious acting talent- Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey (the DA) are both recognized actors (Spacey having won an Oscar for “The Usual Suspects”, and Jackson is *long* overdue for getting one himself), so the titanic surprise was Matthew McConaughey’s reliable performance as the idealistic, passionate attorney who defends Jackson. McConaughey is a terrific actor- laid encourage, easy-going but with unbiased enough passion and intensity. This movie set aside him on the method and it is easy to peek why he is a talent in expect. Sandra Bullock and Ashley Judd have roles here but don’t construct grand of an impression. Donald Sutherland and Keifer both have parts too- the dilapidated as Matthew McConaughey’s mentor (a role he’s quite superb in, incidentally) and the latter as a local redneck.

Finally, a word about the plot: the best movies give us a sticky spot that can’t be resolved easily. The tricky choice in “Crimson Tide” is a radiant example of a decision that could go either map and gives the audience something to debate about afterwards. Here we’re given a tricky choice- vengeance or justice? Do we acquit Samuel L. Jackson because in our hearts he did what we all would do in his status? Or do we punish him for taking the law into his believe hands? It’s a rough choice to earn, and the movie refuses to give us an easy respond.

I have been watching Victory at Sea since I was a kid. I seldom missed an episode when it was shown. Over the years I have taped the series two or three times but never got it complete. I have bought crummy VCR tapes. Worst of all I bought the A&E section of junk. What an expensive rip off that is. Finally we have this one (Studio: Digital 1 Halt DVD Release Date: July 12, 2005 Rush Time: 780 ASIN: B000A2XC7Q) Occupy IT if you like Victory at Sea. The represent is very qualified and the music and narration are like you remember it. I don’t deem it has been remastered but that is a plus after being suckered into buying that A&E allotment of crap.

As far as I can stare it is complete and each episode is 26 minutes long.

The version for around $14 that Amazon is selling is not the tubby version – it has been abridged and this has not been made positive in the description of the item. I would rate it ZERO stars if I could.

I possess the fleshy dwelling of this series on LD but wanted a status which could be taken on move.

If you are on a budget then this version is OK, but for those of us who have watched it for years it is unsatisfactory UNLESS Amazon lists it as being abridged from the unusual. CAVAET EMPTOR.

I got this incredible DVD today for my siblings and I (mainly me lol) to like. I’ve always wanted to gawk these shorts again since you can’t peek them on tv (the Novel Disney Channel sucks) . All of the shorts are very laughable, but I was dissapointed by one thing: none of the shorts were resorted in any plot, it looks as if they wentr through a hasty cleanup and that’s it. I was expecting the describe quality on this to match that of the Goofy DVD (those were restored from the previous Treasures release), but sadly they do not. The represent is oversaturated and a bit too shaded. It’s ample to finally have these shorts on DVD and I would recomend them to anyone who wants to study them again or who has cramped kids. But it would be nice if we got the perfect record like with the Treasures DVD’s. Take and relish.

It’s about time an affordable series of Disney cartoons was released. I know they’ve had some truly stellar gift sets, box sets, metallic box sets, etc, and those are Spacious. But not everyone can afford an investment of that sort. When my 17 year obsolete son was about 4, we veteran to devour the heck out of Chip `n’ Dale cartoons. Disney had a couple of video tapes dedicated to them, each with somewhere around 5 cartoons. They were less than $10 and hold me, we nearly wore those suckers out. Since the advent of DVD, we haven’t had such an affordable shrimp collection.

Now comes this original series, and I immediately had to snatch up the Chip `n’ Dale collection. We bag unprejudiced under an hour of entertainment…a horrible piece of Chip `n’ Dale’s history. Although I don’t have young kids anymore, the whole family enjoyed a diminutive bound down memory lane with these undeniably comic characters. All the episodes where the two chipmunks torment terrible Donald Duck are fair hilarious.

I highly recommend this affordable romp!

Having seen the final version of this DVD at the GAMA trade exhibit (a trade note for game manufacturers and retailers), I must say that I am blown away by the innovative consume of DVD technology here.

Basically, what this company has done is made a D&D themed, fully appealing (using motion remove for realistic movement – contemplate Gollum in the LotR movies) “Determine your believe adventure” style DVD.

The graphics are gorgeous. The characters personalities are sorta campy, but all in all a fine apt pains.

Supposedly there are 990+ combinations of stories. I have not, nor will I ever view them all. However, that isn’t such a awful thing as I can arrive support to this DVD time and time again and the epic will probably change every time.

Its a nice thing to have for game night as it provides a short rupture from what ever games your group normally plays.

If you like to ogle movies more than once, and devour determine your bear adventure, this is a astronomical dvd for you.

Briefly, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 1914 during the First World War, enemy soldiers called off the war for two days and refused to shoot at each other. On Christmas Eve they listened to each other relate Christmas Carols in their wrong trenches and joined in singing together, the British singing in English and the Germans in German and appaulding each others efforts. When dawn broke on Christmas morning, in at least one case, a lone German soldier took his life in his hands and dared to stand up, leave his trench and stride out into “no man’s land” toward the British trenches. No one shot him and soon other soldiers on both sides were leaving their trenches and heading into “no man’s land” between the two armies. Out there British and German soldiers shook hands, talked together as best they could given the language barrier, showed each other pictures of their wives and children, and shared “eats and drink” with one another. The whole incident was beyond bizarre yet did rob location at several places up and down the line of trenches. Later in the day, members of both armies tranquil the bodies of their fallen comrades and buried them the best they could. Mild later, they played football (soccer) in “no man’s land”. In one case, the Germans scored six goals and won the game.

Well, that’s history and suitable. Would strongly suggest, if you want to know more about this, that you hold “The Christmas Truce” which was shown on the History channel. A very estimable documentary.

There was also a very satisfactory movie made about this called Joyeux Noel. Well worth buying. I have included both the documentary and the movie in my list of approved Christmas shows true up there with “A Christmas Carol”, “Miracle on 34th Street”, and “A Christmas Anecdote”.

I have to say that they nailed this movie blooming superb.

Basically all it does is suppose the fable of what happened in Mogadishu on October 3, 1993. They didn’t focus on character detail that grand which to me is a splendid thing. There are fair too many people interested to go into detail with them all. Going into too distinguished detail on clear characters and not others would choose away what some did and would lessen their sacrifice. So, they stuck to honest the anecdote. Salubrious proceed.

They compressed the sage some, changed a few names, and merged some characters into one character This was done to find the epic down to a movie time frame and to protect obvious characters identities as they are composed serving.

No movie based on a book is as detailed as the book. Don’t ask it to be. You should read the book as well.

Some critics have said that it is procedure too violent of a film. Did they know they were going to glance a movie about combat? Hello!!?!! It’s about time that film makers have started making movies to present the American public what really happens in combat. Combat is not one guy running around killing people by the hundreds with a head band on. They made it a loyal as you could obtain it on the veil. Saving Private Ryan started it off and now Shadowy Hawk Down. To Jerry Bruckheimer and Ridley Scott, Bravo! Well Done!

It’s very suitable as far as weapons, equipment, uniforms, etc. They extinct the steady helicopters that were primitive in the recent mission in 1993 with the 160th Coast.

The whole movie I was searching for inaccuracies. Want to know what I came up with? They had their names written in marker on their Kevlar helmets (this was done so the audience could lickety-split protest who’s who) we wrote our names on the helmet band. The chin straps on the Kevlar helmets were not taped up (As soon as I got to Ranger Battalion we had to taped up and tie down definite pieces of equipment and this was one of them), they wore dog stamp silencers (in Ranger Battalion I was told to find them off and tape em up with 100 MPH tape as soon as I got there), and sometimes they said each others names on the radios instead of call signs (once again this was done for the audience) . So as you can inspect I was really reaching there.

Certain shots were fair improbable for me. For example, there was a point of thought shot from the side of a MH-6 Petite Bird (we feeble to jog out on the sides of those things all the time) . The camera was positioned as to be a person sitting on the left side of the chopper looking to the front. In front of the chopper is another Runt Bird fully loaded with guys. The sequence is them going in for a landing on the street. Objective watching it reminded me of all those times I rode on those [...things].

Maybe someday people will inaugurate to belief what people in combat arms go through.

This is a phenominal film. I’m dusky to say that I was fairly oblivious to the conflict in Somalia… I was working 3rd shift and sleeping during the day in 1993 when this incedent took plot. This film could not have been more timely in its release… when long dormant patriotism has been brought to the forefront of every American’s thoughts.

Now that we’ve been attacked on our have soil, conflicts overseas seem that mighty more proper to us.

In 1993, the Islamic leader and warlord of Somalia, Muhammad Farrah Aidid, led with dismay and tyranny. His henchmen were equipped with what appeared to be limitless weapons — vast machine guns, shoulder rockets, pistols, and many automatic and semi-automatic weapons. They enlist even the youngest and most innocent of their populace to befriend them study and retain in constant contact via cell phone. Aidid stopped international attend from reaching his acquire people, killing 300,000 by starvation and the onslaught of civil war.

Washington sent in their military forces to bewitch Aidid from power and to prevent the Somali people from having to endure more suffering under Aidid’s iron acquire. There are some silly moments to rupture the tension, but the majority of the film is a stressful experience where you are literally at the edge of your seat to look what happens next.

The 19 servicemen that are killed range the gamut from 18 year old-fashioned enlistees to First Sergeants with years of service… and none of them dies in a stunning diagram. If you are made queasy by blood, beware… this is a bloody film… and there are a number of scenes that will earn you gasp in dread. Some of these guys were hit by rockets… burned and blown apart… it’s impartial poor, but sadly… it’s reality. We usually honest hear some sterile figures on CNN how a particular number of soldiers were shot, stepped on land mines, etc… but we don’t discover what really happened and that’s when we become very calm from reality and kill up sympathizing with the people (often our enemies) we sight in easier-to-stomach scenes of children living in squalor as a result of conflict, maligning Americans against their possess military. Please effect the rating of this film and believe it thoughtfully before considering bringing a child. The gore is horrific and the scenes are really too intense for young ones.

For those who like shoot-em-ups and explosions, you won’t be disappointed. The special effects are fabulous… there are a few scenes in the movie in which you feel like ducking as it appears a missile is ready to whiz suitable over your shoulder. The sound is improbable… you can hear and feel the bullets whizzing by and you can hear the klinking of shells falling at your feet. The foley artists on this film are to be commended.

Hans Zimmer delivers a improbable and complimentary get to the movie… along with the sounds of African children singing and some rock-n-roll to boot… it’s a nice soundtrack.

Ridley Scott reminds us once again his flair for delivering crisp, intelligent scenes that are riveting, tantalizing and spirited all at the same time.

Watching this film is an emotional and intense experience that will leave you tired when it’s over… but images from the cover will replay in your head several times. These soldiers trained hard to become Rangers and to be portion of the Delta Force… these are young men that know what dangers await them and they go in with their eyes wide commence… and they are prepared to defend their buddies with their lives. In many ways, this film is a monument to their strength, their courage and their loyalty. Those 19 men should not be forgotten. This film is also a testament to the necessity of properly arming and equipping our soldiers so that they have the best protection needed when engaged in conflict and worrying less about appearances and more about protecting American lives, both military and civilian.

I highly recommend this film.

For those of us who weren’t passe enough to peek it in movie theaters, it is finally available for us in WIDESCREEN, too! Paramount did the widescreen television owners a favor by releasing the DVD in ANAMORPHIIC format, too — thank you!

The depressing fact that there are no bonus items is tempered by the gratitude of simply, finally having it available on DVD. [Although it wouldn't have killed Paramount to include the two featurettes (The "Reincarnation Ball" and the behind-the-scenes featurette) that composed exist...]

The DVD itself does survey sterling. This discerning gawk, though, felt that the colors are a bit off — dusky, too. The greens aren’t quite green enough. And that orange Scaasi dress at the waste of the movie is kind of muddy. I’m positive Paramount did the best job possible. What Obvious DAY really needs is a makeover from the negative up! (i.e. a restoration) . The colors aren’t as incandescent as the HELLO DOLLY! restoration, which really *pops* off the conceal.

The sound …. oy. Paramount has created a 5.1 mix that, for the most fragment, sounds gracious. Most of the musical numbers really launch up and have friendly fidelity. Some, though, sound “processed”, especially “Go To Sleep”.

Finally, I’ve given up on the sever scenes. It’s doubtful they calm exist. Film studios simply didn’t sustain that stuff help then. The “deleted scenes” phenomenon is fairly unusual, due to the development of the DVD format. We didn’t have that assist in 1970. Unless Streisand herself or the Minnelli estate have the scenes, I doubt they exist any more. Recently in a home video forum, someone who worked for a laser disk company in the 90’s said that they worked with Paramount on the laser disk version of Obvious DAY and they could not bag any of the gash scenes.

As most of the Sure DAY fans out there know, the film was carve from a “road explain” version (with intermission and more songs and scenes) to what we have today. Excised were a duet with Larry Blyden (WAIT TILL WE’RE 65), a Jack Nicholson song (WHO IS THERE AMONG US WHO KNOWS? ), a Yves Montand reprise (SHE ISN’T YOU) and many acting subplots, including more Nicholson scenes, more flashback scenes with Robert Tentrees, and a bit more. I fair discovered that the other long-lost song, E.S.P., was sung by Yves Montand, not Streisand. It’s questionable whether E.S.P. was ever filmed, though. So …. it’s nice to have Sure DAY on DVD finally! Now … if only Warners & MGM would regain in step and release A STAR IS BORN and YENTL!

Based on the marginally successful 1965 Broadway musical with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Learner and a solid collect by Burton Lane, the 1970 ON A Sure DAY YOU CAN Behold FOREVER was no box office disaster–but it was a disappointment, failing to design a spacious audience and performing worthy more poorly than any one had imagined. This is a pity, for although it cannot be classed among the truly immense movie musicals it is nonetheless a very obliging one, imaginatively filmed and beautifully performed.

The myth concerns a scatter-brained young woman named Daisy Gamble (Barbra Streisand) who is desperate to finish smoking and who lays siege to a distinguished hypnotist Dr. Charbot (Yves Montand.) But it happens that Daisy, for all her goofiness, is unexpectedly gifted: she can obtain lost items, she knows when the telephone will ring–and once under hypnosis she stuns Charbot by transforming into Melinda, a woman who lived, loved, and died more than a century before.

The cast is valid. Streisand is memorably modern in the role of Daisy and performs her numbers with powerful youthful zeal and a flawless artistry; she is a stout amount of fun to scrutinize and an endless pleasure to hear. Although it seems many Americans fail to view the appeal of the spacious French singer and actor Yves Montand, he handles his songs with the same world-weary style that first brought him to the attention of the legendary Edith Piaf–and it proves a remarkably effective foil for Streisand, setting off her grand performance to perfection. The remaining cast, which includes a very young Jack Nicholson and Bob Newhart, is equally fair.

This was the last musical for Vincent Minnelli, perhaps the greatest director of golden age musicals and creator of such films as MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, and he endows the film with his very graceful eye; the “past life” sequences, in which designer Cecil Beaton had a hand, are particularly radiant. Add in such beautifully orchestrated and performed songs as “It’s Resplendent Up Here,” “Arrive Abet To Me,” and the title piece–and when all is said and done ON A Positive DAY is a very exquisite film indeed.

The film was originally intended to be released in a three hour version–but in the wake of several box office disasters for mammoth scale musicals both Minnelli and the studio belief better of it and reduce the film significantly. It would seem these scenes are gone forever, and more’s the pity. Serene, this no-frills DVD release offers a best-possible print in terms of both sound and narrate, and both long-time fans and newcomers will cherish it. Recommended.

I admire the residence keywords listed for the film Dismal Sister’s Revenge (1976) aka Emma Mae on The Internet Movie Database…Hit In Crotch, Racial Slur, Independent Film, Blaxploitation…not mighty, but you had me at `Hit In Crotch’. Written, produced, and directed by Jamaa Fanaka (Penitentiary, Penitentiary II, Street Wars), the film features a cast of relative unknown performers, many in their only conceal role, including Jerri Hayes, Eddie Allen, Charles D. Brooks III (Soul Vengeance), Malik Carter (Dim Belt Jones), and Ernest Williams II, whom some may remember in the pivotal role as `Customer’, from the television role “That’s My Mama”, specifically the episode titled “The Gun”…give me a rupture, as I had not a lot to work with here…

Jerri Hayes play Emma Mae, a young woman from rural Mississippi (or `Sippi’ as was referred to in the film) who has advance to L.A. (Compton to be proper) live with her aunt and her family after the passing of Emma Mae’s mother. As Emma Mae gets off the bus, her cousins gaze at her like she’s some sort of alien, as the chick is pure corn pone, if you know what I mean. Anyway, her cousins reluctantly let Emma Mae ticket along as they go to the local college student union, and the joint is jumping. Her cousins try to place her up, but there are no takers. Emma Mae does eventually pick up the peek of a local hoodlum and pill pusher named Jesse (Williams II) after she beats the tar out of his weasely friend named Zeke (Brooks III), earning the respect of her peers (seems Zeke was more vocal than the others in terms of her funky appearance, to which Emma Mae laid a few smacks upside his head) . Emma Mae ends up falling hard for Jesse who eventually has an altercation with The Fuzz, goes into hiding (call me mint jelly baby, cause I’m on the lam), eventually gets popped and thrown into the can, the joint, the slammer, the hoosegow, the pen, the tank, the cooler, the jug, the cooler, the brig…what I’m trying to say is he was committed to a house of correction. Anyway, being smitten with the lug, Emma Mae gets the locals together to raise money to hire a lawyer to defend Jesse and Zeke, as they work out a deal to begin a carwash on an unused property. Things are going well, so well, in fact that The Man takes sight and shuts them down (some BS zoning laws), to which Emma Mae and a couple of others resort to robbing a bank…they pick up away, employ the money to come by Jesse and Zeke out on bail, but then Jesse ends up two-timing Emma Mae (turns out he was only using her the whole time), to which she retaliates by putting her foot square into Jesse’s tedious, among other places…

I learned a lot of things from this movie, the first being you don’t want to disrespect a country girl with nappy hair, because if you do, she’ll have no dilemma in dishing out a country beating (particularly in working over your jewels, if you’re a male) . I also learned some unusual terms, like fender benders…this is musty to characterize pills that, if you recall, and then drive a car, they’ll earn you break into things causing you to bend your fender. Also, an `ugmug’ is an unattractive person (I believe the word is actually a combination of two words, frightening and mug) . And if you really want to disrespect someone, you can call him or her `armadillo ugly’…another thing, I didn’t realize wearing overalls without a shirt was such a predominant fad in the mid 70s…spirited perceive. All correct, as far as the film goes, it was enchanting, but one should sustain in mind the cast is made up of inexperienced performers, so a lot of the acting really isn’t all that worthy, but the pains, for the most allotment, was there, and that counts for something with me. The legend moves along blooming well, but it does bag bogged down occasionally as a character experiences a verbose, moment of drama meant, I deem, to appeal to the audience the trials and tribulations of the disenfranchised African American community. Emma Mae has a few of these scenes, along with another character named Large Daddy, played by Carter. Colossal Daddy was kind of a outlandish guy in that he wore former African attire, a sheik headdress, beefy gray bread, mumbles to himself, and had a militant attitude. There’s one scene where he speaks about a number of things including the evils of whitey, the ironic dilemma of brothers killing each other over turf which they don’t even gain, and the need for African Americans to score up off their collective behinds and rob what they can from The Man. Some of the sequences didn’t seem to be related to the epic, but were fun to peruse, nonetheless, one in particular being when Jesse and Zeke were eating crab and hitching a scurry, finally getting picked up by some acquaintances. That crab looked horrible, and they were eating parts of it I don’t mediate you’re supposed to eat. All in all this was an outlandish, indecent budget, independent drama with blaxploitation underpinnings, displaying some sparkling shabby acting through and through, but it does feature some pain (in my notion), along with a bit of heart (or soul, if you engage), and possibly worth checking out if only to peruse the last five minutes when the character of Emma Mae performs her rendition of The Nutcracker Suite…

The fullscreen record (1.33:1) on this Xenon Pictures DVD does exhibit signs of age, but overall, looks relatively decent and certainly watchable. The audio comes through relatively well, but I’m not really clear what format it’s presented in…there are chapter stops, and a number of previews for other DVD releases including Dreadful Attitude (1993), Dusky Godfather (1974), Dolemite (1975), Penitentiary (1979), Soul Survivor (1995), and Sweetback (1971) .

By the design, someone was asking about the music played during the final credits…the song, titled Theme from Emma Mae (Long to be Benefit Home), was arranged by HB Barnum (who also did the scoring for the film), and performed by Keisa Brown, and released as a 45 attend in 1976 on the Los Angeles impress Marsel Records.

Here in Austin, TX, we’ve the Alamo Draft House, a local Cinema that not only shows vast name flicks but also shows underrated and lesser-known shows, as well. Every Wednesday is “Queer Wednesday,” in which they demonstrate a campy, B-grade film, usually from the seventies, at midnight. “Shadowy Sister’s REvenge” was by far the best Wierd Wednesday flick we’ve ever seen– the only to net a standing ovation! That fight sene at the destroy is CLASSIC. This movie is absolutley hysterical.

Atmospheric recreations, narrated by the survivors, give a chilling sense of the wilderness, isolation, and brutal conditions these people endured. When a group of survivors return to the scene of the atomize in 2006 to pay their respects, filmmakers follow. Many of the survivors are accompanied by their children, some the same age as their fathers when the accident occurred. Sitting amid the dazzling snow-capped peaks of The Valley of Tears 35 year later, these men are able to assure their experience, including rare moments of profound beauty, in language that is heartfelt and hopeful.

The memoir of the 1972 plane wreck in the Andes and the struggles of the men aboard to survive seems to pop into the public awareness periodically over the three decades since it happened. “Stranded” is the latest documentary on the subject, and it’s the best I’ve seen. All 16 survivors participated. Director Gonzalo Arijon incorporates grainy, impressionistic, restful reenactments of the scenes the men relate. This enhances the audience’s portray of the events without usurping the though-provoking commentary of the survivors. The combination of interviews, some archival footage, and the dreamlike reenactments, which seem like memories, produce this retelling of the epic more moving than any record adaptation.

On Friday, October 13, 1972, a college rugby team from Montevideo, Uruguay site out on Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 to Santiago, Chile, where they were to compete in a match. Having changed its route to avoid inclement weather, the plane descended too early over the mountains, severed both wings, and crash-landed high in the snow-covered Andes. Of the 45 people aboard, 29 survived the demolish, 23 uninjured. They didn’t have adequate clothing for the freezing conditions. Many had never seen snow before. And, even strictly rationed, food would only last a few days. They hoped to be rescued but could hear on the radio that the aerial search was called off due to heavy snow. And yet 16 of the young men spent 72 days on the mountain and lived to talk about it.

All survivors participated, but some say more than others. Fernando “Nando” Parrado, who wrote a book about his experiences, seems to have been a leader after the group lost its team captain. Roberto Canessa, who, with Nando, was responsible for the rescue, is the most pensive and analytical of the experience. Gustavo Zerbina is vibrant and opinionated. Those who had the strongest voices on the mountain have the most to say today. The film places no more emphasis on the men’s cannibalism than on any other element of their epic, for which I am grateful. I’ve never understood the fascination with the cannibalism. It’s the least attractive aspect of the ordeal. This is an astounding record of survival and hasten against all odds and against the indifference and supremacy of Nature. The DVD (Zeitgeist 2009) : Bonus features are a US trailer (2 min) and a featurette, “The Making of Stranded” (52 min) . This is a loosely organized mix of interviews with survivors that were prick from the final edit of the film, some brief interviews with the director on position, in which he emphasizes that this film is about the experiences of the men, not about action, and we exhaust time with some of the survivors as they recount more details of their experiences to the young actors who will narrate them. Both the film and featurette are in Spanish with optional English subtitles.
